Australian Open
The Australian Open is one of the most exciting Grand Slams for several reasons. The main being the fact it is one of the earliest tournaments of the year as it starts in the third week of January. This means nobody knows how well people will be playing, who is on form or if there are any injuries and so betting on the Australian Open can be a highly lucrative experience.
The Australian Open has changed its surface, the most notable of which was only back in 2008. Originally it was on grass but then 1987 it changed to ‘Rebound Ace’ and finally that changed to ‘Plexicushion’. Both Rebound Ace and Plexicushion are just different forms of hard court and so this makes the Australian Open similar to the US Open.
The total prize money for the Australian Open is A$23,140,000 with each singles winner taking away A$2,100,000 and the runners up taking away A$1,050,000. The Australian Open gives away the most prize money to the singles winner out of all the Grand Slams just ahead of the US Open and Wimbledon. This makes it one of the most desired Grand Slams and it’s a great idea to bet on the Australian Open as everyone will be desperate to scoop the biggest Grand Slam prize fund.
Betting on the Australian Open
Betting on the Australian Open can be a very rewarding experience due to the fact that there are different winners of finalists most years. In the men’s singles, there have been three different winners in the past three years and a total of 5 different finalists in the past three years. Betting on the Australian Open could not be more exciting.
One of either Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal are almost certain to make the final in 2010 and so betting on Roger Federer at the Australian Open or betting on Rafael Nadal at the Australian Open are good ideas but not on both. It is likely there will be an upset and one of them will be knocked out. A strong outsider, like Thomas Berdych, could be a great idea for betting on the Australian Open.
The women’s singles is very similar as they have had two different winners in the past three years, with a total of five different finalists. You could scoop up some great odds on a player that could make it to the final, and maybe even win, the Australian Open is the perfect place for this. After winning two years in a row, betting on Serena Williams at the Australian Open is still a good idea but she is not for certain.
Betting on Maria Sharapova at the Australian Open or betting on Jelena Jankovic at the Australian Open are both good ideas as they both have great records at the tournament.
Make sure you bet on the Australian Open as you could come away with a surprise winner and bring home a lot of money.
